This depth study of World War 2 includes a study of the causes, events, outcome and broader impact of the conflict as an episode in world history, and the nature of Australia’s involvement. Greatest emphasis will be on the Australian home front, the changing roles of women and use of propaganda and wartime government controls.
Throughout the unit, higher order thinking and communication skills will be emphasised as students are required to analyse a wide range of primary and secondary sources and plan and write an argumentative essay, using digital technology. Students will also be required to use chronological sequencing to demonstrate the relationship between events and developments in different periods and places, use historical terms and concepts, identify relevant sources, their origin, purpose and context, evaluate reliability and usefulness of sources and synthesise information as evidence in an historical argument.
Most resources used are freely available on the internet and collaborative group work will be required at intervals throughout the unit.
